Ingredients
-
200 g lard
-
3 cloves of garlic
-
3 sprigs of dill
-
to taste salt
-
to taste black pepper
Directions
Chopped lard with garlic is a traditional Ukrainian dish. It can be spread on bread or added to various dishes. I like to spread lard with garlic on a toasted piece of rye bread.
Lard is primarily made up of monounsaturated fats, which are considered healthy fats that can support heart health by helping to reduce levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol. Lard, especially when sourced from pasture-raised pigs, is a good source of vitamin D. This essential vitamin plays a crucial role in bone health, immune function, and overall well-being. It’s one of the few animal-based fats that naturally contains a significant amount of vitamin D.
Garlic is well known for its numerous health benefits. It has antimicrobial properties, helps boost the immune system, and is linked to reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Garlic is rich in antioxidants, particularly allicin, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and heart-protective effects. It may also improve digestive health and promote a healthy gut microbiome.
